Strategic Head - City of Gothenburg, Climate Transition Office
Carl heads the Gothenburg Climate Transition Office, an innovative pilot effort to accelerate the sustainability transition in the city with a focus on ambitious efforts in the intersection of business, energy and environmental concerns. The design and methodology of the effort builds on Carl’s long experience as a strategic consultant in strategy and organisational development. It was refined and articulated during a multi-year international research effort, involving Yale, Chalmers and Gothenburg Business School, where Carl had a leading role. This research was design based and focused on the urban governance challenges that arise in a fragmented political landscape, and on how to effectively address these.
Carl previously worked in a consulting capacity to support companies and public bodies in their efforts to drive systemic change. Much of his work focused on urban governance, with a particular focus on how to develop new strategies and partnership for social and physical rejuvenation of low-income urban areas. He has also worked extensively to develop models that harness in a positive way the power of private capital to drive development and climate mitigation.
Carl was formerly the CEO of the Tällberg Foundation, a strategic think tank and an international forum searching for new governance models to meet the sustainability challenge. Carl started his career in strategy consulting for the financial services and was educated at Oxford University and Cambridge University in the UK. He is a World Fellow at Yale University.
